The AZH is a nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the advancement of zoo horticulture in zoological parks, gardens and aquariums.The advent of natural habitat exhibits in zoos during the 1960s and 1970s demonstrated the need for well trained as well as informed zoo horticulturists. One of the key elements in natural habitat exhibits is a holistic approach to exhibit design. The horticulturist is involved in the exhibit design from its beginning to advise and present the plant needs for the exhibit, and to follow the project to its conclusion.
